smoking – why we smoke

Why don't birds smoke daddy?

Why don't birds smoke daddy?

|The paradox.
  • On the one hand, all the reasons for smoking are good reasons and we use smoking as the “be all, end all” remedy.
  • On the other hand, smoking makes things worse and it comes with a bag of nasties. Smokers have had that shoved down their throat for decades, so I ain’t gonna add to the cacophony.

|So you’re stuck in an endless loop, with a remedy that doesn’t work and one that interferes with your health and lifestyle.

That’s a classic definition of a bad habit.

An endless loop of behaviour that interferes with your health and/ or lifestyle.

Smell the flowers

How do flowers handle stress?

Reasons for smoking.
The list is not exhaustive so perhaps you can add your comments below.

  1. Temporary escape from life’s stresses. Relief from stress, anger, anxiety, rejection and any other unwanted human emotion.
Smoking is used as ‘Avoidance therapy’ (?) This is a contradiction of terms, because the problem remains whether you avoid it or not, smoke or not.
  2. To relax. Instead of relaxing by doing relaxing things, we smoke.
  3. To take time out. Instead of taking time out, we smoke.
  4. To take a sigh of relief. Instead of taking in deep breaths, we smoke.
  5. To be social. Instead of being sociable: Talking, smiling, laughing, meeting friends, having fun, we smoke.
  6. To get away from the computer. Instead off shaking off the cobwebs, we smoke.
